  • Synopsis
  • About the author

The book introduces the mechanism and prevention measurements for typical secondary geological disasters and subgrade hazards induced by the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake along roads, based on the funding “assessment, mechanism analysis, and design standards evaluation of road earthquake hazards induced by the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake” from the western transportation science and technology fund of transportation ministry.

The book separates two parts and consists of 12 chapters and 7 appendices. The first part includes chapter 1 to chapter 6, and introduces the achievements from the study for earthquake geological disasters, containing mechanism and process of forming typical collapse triggered by the earthquake, the mechanism and process of forming typical landslides triggered by the earthquake, the preliminary study to the mechanism and characteristics of forming post-disaster debris flow in the quake-hit area, and prevention measurements of geological disasters.

The second part includes chapter 7 to chapter 12, and introduces the achievements from the study for subgrade hazards, containing the mechanism analysis of seismic damage on retaining structures, subgrade body and slopes and prevention measurements of subgrades. Appendix A to G introduce experimental analysis of mechanism of geological disasters and subgrade hazards as well as the seismic design methods, containing the dynamic response mechanism of subgrade geological disasters triggered by the earthquake, the calculation method of seismic earth pressure, the seismic design of gravity retaining walls, pile-plank retaining walls and pre-stressed anchored retaining walls, the analysis of shaking table test on common retaining walls and reinforced retaining walls and pile-plank retaining walls

This book will be useful as an introduction and tutorial for bridge and tunnel technical personnel and as well as a reference for related researchers.
