  • Synopsis
  • About the author

The book introduces the mechanism of typical highway bridge and subgrade hazards induced by the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, based on the funding “assessment, mechanism analysis, and design standards evaluation of road earthquake hazards induced by the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake” from the western transportation science and technology fund of transportation ministry. The book separates two parts and consists of 13 chapters and 8 appendices. The first part includes chapter 1 to chapter 7, and introduces the analysis of highway bridge hazards and its prevention measurements, containing an overview of bridge hazards, the impact analysis of seismic geological disasters induced by earthquakes on bridges and its prevention measurements, the mechanism analysis of seismic damage on simple-supported beam bridge, continuous beam bridge, arch bridge and continuous rigid frame bridge and the seismic design methods.

The second part includes chapter 8 to chapter 13, and introduces the analysis of highway tunnel seismic hazards and its prevention measurements, containing the mechanism analysis of seismic damage on tunnel entrances, fault fracture zones and common tunnel structures, prevention measurements of highway tunnels. For reference, appendices provides detailed test method, and the process and results of the tests, as well as detailed modeling method and calculating results from numerical simulation analysis.

This book will be useful as an introduction and tutorial for bridge and tunnel technical personnel and as well as a reference for researchers.
