The books introduces mainly about the design, construction and relevant concepts of urban bridges in China and beyond. The book covers mainly the design and construction status of urban bridges in 26 medium and big cities of China and the author’s visits to and thinking of 25 developed countries overseas for the construction of urban bridges, especially their latest achievements in construction of big-span bridges. With a foothold in the frontier of scientific development, the book is deliberately compiled on the basis of the author’s design analysis, theoretical research and practical exploration of urban bridges over decades and with reference to the field investigation on typical bridge projects at home and abroad. The book can be used as a teaching reference book for undergraduate and postgraduate students of bridge engineering, municipal engineering and relevant subjects as well as for research workers, college teachers and production and construction technical professionals engaged in the aforementioned engineering fields.

Mu Xiangchun, male, Hui nationality, born in Beijing in June 1955, postgraduate background, professor-level senior engineer of bridges, national certified consulting engineer, expert entitled to the special allowance of the State Council; previously as Deputy General Manager of Beijing General Municipal Engineering Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd; honored with National Excellent Design Gold Award, the first prizes of excellent engineering design, China Civil Engineering Zhan Tianyou Award, and Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Award granted by MOHURD and Beijing Municipality and with the Certificate of Patent for Utility Models issued by State Intellectual Property Office; publishing more than 120 academic papers at National Bridge Conference and domestic key journals; publishing the monographs “Urban Bridges and Municipal Construction based on Innovative Theories” in October 2012 and Urban Bridges in China and Beyond in August 201. He is currently as Deputy Director-general of China Association of Engineering Construction Standardization, Vice President of China Building Material Engineering Construction Association, Director of Zhan Tianyou Outstanding Engineering Science and Technology Development Foundation, Deputy Director of Computer Application Committee of China Exploration and Design Association, Member of Informatization Steering Committee of China Exploration and Design Association, Executive Director and Deputy Secretary-general of Beijing Engineering Exploration and Design Associationand Chief Supervisor of Beijing Municipal Engineering Association. In December 2014, he was honored as “Annual Figure of China Engineering Construction Standardization” by China Association for Engineering Construction Standardization and China Construction News.

In recent years, the special column of “Mr. Mu talking about bridges” started on China Construction News has been widely followed with interest and praised. Mr. Mu Xiangchun is enthusiastic about social public welfare and has been invited, on various occasions, to deliver lectures at Beijing Construction University, Beijing Jiaotong University, China Building Material Engineering and Construction Association and Beitaipingzhuang Subdistrict. He is good at interpreting the complex and tedious bridge knowledge, history and culture and political theories with common and easy-to-understand languages and has been favored by the audiences for explaining profound theories in simple language.
