In 2001, Professor Yang Zhaoxia of BeijingJiaotong University took charge of MOE Teaching Reform Project, which won thesecond prize of National Distinguished Teaching Achievement in 2005. Accordingto the teaching reform research and pilot project, four majors of “railwaytransportation”, “urban road traffic”, “urban rail transit” and “transport andlogistics” are currently established under communications and transport. Accordingto the teaching needs, Beijing Jiaotong University organized a number ofChinese colleges and research institutions to compile this collection of coreteaching materials on urban rail transit of communications and transport, includingsuch four backbone courses as Urban Rail Transit Planning and Design, Operationand Management for Urban Rail Transit, Train Haulage Calculation and UrbanPassenger Transport Management.

This collection ofteaching materials can be used as the teaching material of urban rail transitfor collegeundergraduate and postgraduate students of communications and transportas well as the training and referential materials for persons involved indecision-making, planning and design, and operation and management of urbanrail transit.
Professor Mao Baohua, male, born in Qiyang,Hunan, in May 1963, CPC member, Han nationality, B.E. 1983, Changsha RailwayCollege, M.E., 1986, Northern Jiaotong University, D.E., 1993, NorthernJiaotong University; now as professor, doctoral supervisor, executive directorof China Comprehensive Transportation Research Center, Beijing JiaotongUniversity; director of Urban Rail Transit Department, School of Communicationsand Transport, Beijing Jiaotong University;visited the Hong Kong PolytechnicUniversity in1999 and the University of Leeds, UK, in 2000, 2002, 2007. Since 2000,he has chaired and participated in more than 40 scientific research projects,published more than 100 theses, of which more than 40 are included in SCI andEI;as the principal of the national elaborate course“Urban Rail Transit Planningand Design”; offering more than 10 postgraduate and undergraduate courses.
