  • About the author
This book puts forwardcreatively the basic principles of the design and construction of tunnels andunderground engineering in China, as well as a complete tunnel constructionmethod; describes in detail drill explosion methods for tunnel construction, special rock tunnel construction and geological disaster prevention points, shallow bored tunnel construction technology, cut and cover method for tunnelconstruction, open-style rock boring machine and compound liner plateconstruction technology, shield tunnel construction technology, submerged pipetunnel construction technology, as well as the artificial construction methods, underwater tunnels and so on. This book proposes firstly the “freezing aftergrouting” method, “energy release depressurization” method and points out thatthe tunnel risk management should “focus on planning, survey, design, dynamicmanagement of the construction and safety monitoring of the operation”. Thisbook presents actual level of tunnel construction and provides great support ofpractical guidance for the present large-scale tunnel construction andunderground engineering in China.
Wang Mengshu, expert of underground engineering andacademician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, is deputy chief engineer ofChina Railway Tunnel Group Co., Ltd, professor and doctoral supervisor of civilengineering at Beijing Jiaotong University. He opened up theoretical researchin the field of complex lining structure of railway tunnels, and was in chargeof the development, research and application of key technologies in Dayaoshantunnel hole blasting, shotcrete support, monitoring and measurement, feedbackto guide the construction and pre-grouting around the drilling. He hosted theinformation construction of unstable stratum for two-line railway tunnels andpresided over the creation of matching technology of the “mining method” forthe construction of subways and stations. More than 90 papers and sixmonographs were published.
